Research & Innovation Visit — HP Experience Centre

A day dedicated to research, innovation, and technological exploration at the HP Experience Centre.

Our students explored emerging technologies, gained insights into real-world innovation practices, and interacted with industry professionals through an engaging Q&A session. Research Webinar — How to Write & Publish a Quality Research Article

Newports Institute of Communications & Economics organized a webinar on “How to Write & Publish a Quality Research Article” on 7th October 2025.

The session was conducted by Dr. Muhammad Salman Chughtai and focused on strengthening students’ and researchers’ understanding of academic research and publication.

Key areas covered included:

  • Structure and components of a quality research article
  • Effective research writing and publication strategies
  • Practical insights into addressing organizational issues in Pakistan

The webinar provided participants with valuable guidance to enhance their research skills and develop quality academic work.

Entrepreneurship Element — Frill & Thrill

Newports Institute of Communications & Economics successfully launched “Frill & Thrill,” a student-led clothing brand developed by students of Principles of Management under the supervision of Lecturer Salman Qadri.

The event featured Ms. Shaheena Sher Ali, Minister for Women Development, Sindh, as the Chief Guest, and Muhammad Khalid, Additional Director, State Bank of Pakistan, as the Guest Speaker.

The initiative provided students with practical exposure to entrepreneurship, business development, and brand creation, reflecting Newports Institute’s commitment to developing future entrepreneurs through hands-on learning, training, and mentorship.

Research & Innovation — Tackling Misinformation in the Digital Age

Newports Institute, in collaboration with Deutsche Welle (DW), organized an interactive and insightful session on Fact-Checking, AI-Driven Disinformation, and Misinformation on 24th April 2025.

The session featured distinguished speakers:

  • Mr. Adnan Ishaq – Head of Urdu Service, DW
  • Ms. Rachel Baig – Editor, DW Fact Check
  • Mr. Rafat Saeed – Correspondent, Karachi

The session focused on developing critical research and analytical skills to identify misinformation, verify digital information, assess the credibility of sources, and understand the role of AI in spreading disinformation.

The activity contributed to fostering a culture of evidence-based research, critical thinking, and responsible use of information, equipping students with practical tools to navigate an increasingly digital information landscape.

Research, Innovation & International Collaboration — Pak-Russia Corridor Cultural Festival

Newports Institute hosted the Pak-Russia Corridor Cultural Festival, bringing together students, academics, and international partners to promote cross-cultural learning, knowledge exchange, and international collaboration.

Day 1 featured poetry, music, quizzes, cultural exhibitions, and performances celebrating the traditions of Pakistan and Russia. The event was attended by distinguished representatives from Newports Institute and Moscow Polytechnic University, including Rector Dr. Huma Bukhari, Vice-Rector Yulia Davydova, and Professor Dr. Nazir Zamanov.

Day 2 continued with the presence of Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah as Chief Guest. Awards and certificates were presented to recognize outstanding contributions, followed by a symbolic tree plantation ceremony representing sustainability, shared growth, and lasting international friendship.

The festival strengthened academic and cultural linkages between Pakistan and Russia, while creating opportunities for students to engage with international perspectives and collaborative initiatives.

Newports Institute of Communications & Economics organized the International Conference on Business Management & Computing (ICBMC 2025) on 9th–10th April 2025 at the Newports Institute campus in Karachi.

Innovation & Entrepreneurship — Battle of Wittz: Spark Tank

Newports Institute of Communications & Economics proudly participated in the Battle of Wittz – Spark Tank, providing students with a platform to showcase innovative, technology-driven entrepreneurial ideas.

The First Prize was secured by the Newports Institute team for “Smart Grow: IoT-Enabled Urban Farming,” led by Muhammad Rizwan Sheikh, with team members Umair Gul, Ahmed Raza, and Muhammad Zain.

Research & Innovation — Integrating SDGs into Final Year Research

Newports Institute organized an insightful session on “Sustainable Solutions: Using the SDGs as a Framework for Your Final Year Work” on 13th October 2024.

The session featured Mr. Ammar Jaffri, Former Additional DG FIA and Founder of Digital Pakistan 2023, as Keynote Speaker, and Muhammad Ali Jinnah, SDGs Academy Project Director – Sindh & Balochistan, as Co-Speaker.

Research & Innovation — International Academic Collaboration with Niger

Newports Institute hosted an esteemed academic delegation from Niger to strengthen international collaboration in education, research, and knowledge exchange.

The delegation included Ibrahim Guero Mahamadoul-Hadi, Rector of KAAT University; Dr. Halidou Soumana Ibrahim; Sanda Maiga Abdoulaye, Rector of IPSP; and Ibrahim bin Maqsood, representative of the African Institute of Technology, Niamey. The delegation was accompanied by Dr. Ahmed Ali Sirohey, Ambassador of Niger.

An MoU was signed with Newports Institute to establish stronger academic and research linkages. Discussions focused on faculty and student exchange programs, collaborative research opportunities, and online short courses for students in Niger.

The collaboration marks an important step toward expanding international research networks, knowledge sharing, academic mobility, and innovation-driven partnerships.

Innovation & Commercialization — Aroma Match

Newports Institute inaugurated “Aroma Match,” a student-led project developed by students of Project Management, on 1st June 2024.

The initiative provided students with practical experience in product development, branding, project execution, and commercialization, allowing them to transform an innovative concept into a market-oriented product.

The event, graced by Dr. Farooq Sattar as Chief Guest, highlighted the students’ creativity, entrepreneurial thinking, and ability to develop solutions with commercial potential. Newports Institute signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Smart Entrepreneur Society (SES) to create stronger opportunities for students in entrepreneurship, innovation, and commercialization.

The MoU was signed by Engr. Mehtab Hussain, Founder & Chairman of Smart Entrepreneur Society, and Madam Huma Bukhari, Co-Chairperson, Newports Institute of Communications & Economics.

The collaboration aims to provide students with access to an entrepreneurial ecosystem where they can develop ideas, build business models, connect with industry, and explore pathways for commercializing innovative projects.

Newports Institute organized a specialized workshop on SmartPLS 4 on 20th January 2024, led by Dr. Muhammad Mujtaba, PhD in HRM and Assistant Professor of Human Resource Management.

The workshop focused on strengthening participants’ quantitative research and data analysis skills, with practical exposure to SmartPLS 4 and its application in academic research.
